One of the rarest US stamps, printed in 1868. It shows the profile of Benjamin Franklin, who, although he was not an American president, was at one time the postmaster of all the North American colonies. This instance is distinguished by a special type of wafer (the so-called Z-Grill design). This type of pressing was not used for very long, at most a couple of weeks. The short production time is what makes the brand so rare. The Z-Grill is unique in two ways.
Firstly, it was the first type of stamp pressing that was put into production in 1868 (despite the fact that its name used the last letter of the English alphabet).
